Shakespeare
for Dinner!

"Some of the playwright's finest
moments - with a twist!" - The Independent

Looking for a funny, eye-catching, awe-inspiring
addition to your evening or dinner?
Do you need a professional, classy,
unique performance for an event or venue?
|
Big Wheel has joined forces with "Network of
Stuff" Theatre Company to present "Shakespeare for Dinner".
"Network of Stuff" wrote and directed a show called
"Shakespeare for Breakfast" for C Theatre at the Edinburgh
Fringe in 2000 ("Delightfully punchy!" - The Scotsman).
Shakespeare for Dinner is a fast-moving, funny, beautifully
acted montage of some of Shakespeare's most well-loved scenes,
interspersed with the hilarious story of the petty jealousies
and intrigues amongst the actors themselves. A play within a
play that comes alive when you realise that Juliet is having
an affair with the Nurse, and that Cleopatra doesn't want to
leave the stage, even after she's dead!
The show is extremely versatile, and could offer
a truly inspiring centrepiece to any event - be it a formal
dinner, a Christmas party, a company fun day, a conference (like
Shakespeare himself!) a wedding feast.
The Cast
The actors presenting Shakespeare for Dinner
are full-time professionals. They all have a huge amount of
experience in performing the classics, and all work in a wide
variety of theatre, TV and film roles. The actors we use are
also confident improvisers and quick learners, (many work on
the comedy circuit and in corporate role-play), so that we can
easily adapt the show, making each client's experience of it
unique.
The Menu
(1) After Dinner Shakespeare - a 45-minute-long
performance, featuring some of Shakespeare's most well-loved
scenes and a few lesser-known gems, mixed up with a hilarious,
farcical story of bickering thespians. All we need is a clear,
well-lit playing space. It needn't be a formal stage - we have
performed in marquees, conference centres, halls, gardens, castles,
churches, a Welsh beach, and so on.
(2) The Macbeths for Dinner - our actors
will sit amongst the other diners, minding their own business,
until it slowly becomes obvious that they are not conference
delegates or waiters at all, but Macbeth and Lady Macbeth plotting
the murder of the king! Watch the penny drop as the action gets
gorier and gorier in this alternative murder mystery by the
greatest crime writer of all - William Shakespeare. We have
recently presented a version of this at a corporate function,
to great acclaim.
(3) Shakespeare à la carte - How about
having the lovers from a Midsummer Nights' Dream mingle with
the guests at a wedding party? A motivational speaker who turns
out to be Henry the Fifth? A conference presenter who is distracted
by the ghost of Hamlet's father? All this and more is perfectly
possible -
